Privacy policy

We value our readers’ privacy deeply at Physics Capsule and reflect this appropriately in our policy and approach

We take the privacy of our visitors seriously on Physics Capsule (“PhysCap”, “we”, “us”, “this website”, “our”) accessible at the physicscapsule.com domain. This page details the types of information we collect and/or record and explains how and why we use it. It also details the third-party services used on this website and its allied services.

Log Files

Physics Capsule follows a standard procedure of using log files. These files log visitors when they visit websites and is standard procedure across most of the web, done mainly by hosting companies. The information collected by log files include internet protocol (IP) addresses, browser type, Internet Service Provider (ISP), date and time stamp, referring/exit pages, and possibly the number of clicks. These are not linked to any information that is personally identifiable to you.

Besides our hosting provider, Physics Capsule collects its own logs but these are purely functional in nature. They include the redacted IP address of website visitors, a randomly generated session ID to link logs created during the same browsing session, log messages which include a timeline of activity on our server, possible script and database errors, and queued activities. The purpose of these log files is to help us administer the site and assist in debugging should something go wrong at some point.

NB No logged information can personally identify you. The only potentially identifiable information, your IP address, is hidden from us and logged simply as a dash (–) in order to comply with GDPR.

Cookies and Web Beacons

Like any other website, Physics Capsule uses ‘cookies’ to improve your experience on this website. These cookies are used to store information such as users’ preferences and the pages on our website that a user accessed or visited. This information is used to optimise user experience by customising our web page content based on visitors’ browser type and/or other information such as faster loading of previously visited pages, changing colour schemes and other such user preferences.

Google reCAPTCHA

We use reCAPTCHA by Google to valiade forms in order to prevent bots from spamming us with e-mails. This not only makes our work more efficient, it also ensures real contact messages send from real people, such as yourself, are not lost in the mail. The use of invisible reCAPTCHA, which is the variant we use on Physics Capsule, is subject to the Google Privacy Policy and Terms of Use. reCAPTCHA sets a ‘necessary’ cookie (_GRECAPTCHA) for the purpose of providing its risk analysis.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. podcast episodes, videos, images, tweets etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor was in fact on that other website. The most common use of this is embeds via Anchor for our podcast.

These websites may collect data about you, use their own cookies unrelated to Physics Capsule, embed additional third-party tracking and monitor your interaction with said embedded content, including tracking your interaction with the embedded content if you have an account and are logged in on that website. This is a common practice especially with social media websites like Facebook and ad-hosting websites like Google. Physics Capsule has no control over the way these websites choose to use your data. We have avoided the use of these sites so that they do not load cookies while you visit this website.

Third-party policies

Third-party ad servers, ad networks and other services use technologies like cookies, JavaScript or Web Beacons in their respective advertisements and links that appear on Physics Capsule. These ads, links etc. are sent directly to users’ browsers from these services and ad networks and not through Physics Capsule, which only provides screen real estate to display these ads and/or services. These third-party services automatically receive your IP address when their content appears on Physics Capsule. These technologies are used to measure the effectiveness of their advertising campaigns and/or to personalize the advertising content that you see on websites that you visit.

Note that Physics Capsule has no access to or control over these cookies that are used by third-parties. Third-party content you will find on this website includes webmaster services, Youtube embeds, Twitter embeds and Vimeo embeds among others.

Physics Capsule’s Privacy Policy (this page) does not apply to other advertisers or websites. We advise you to consult the Privacy Policies of the respective third-party ad servers or services for more information about how they use any data they collect from visitors of this website. It may include their practices and instructions on how to opt out of certain services.

You can choose to disable cookies through your individual browser options. To know more detailed information about cookie management with specific web browsers, please consult the makers of your browser.

Children’s Information

Another part of our priority is adding protection for children while using the internet. We encourage parents and guardians to observe, participate in, and/or monitor and guide their online activity—without resorting to helicopter parenting.

Physics Capsule does not knowingly collect any personal identifiable information from children under the age of 18. If you think that your child provided this kind of information on our website, we strongly encourage you to contact us immediately and we will do our best to promptly remove such information from our records permanently.

Newsletter subscription and membership

We offer a free newsletter to our readers as part of our Insider programme and we also welcome monetary support through monthly donations. Our newsletter service is handled by Mailchimp and donations made in our support are handled through Patreon. Both of these services collect your information to keep track of users who seek these features and to offer said features to users who have signed up for them.

In all cases no information collected, most importantly your e-mail address, is used for any purpose by Physics Capsule, Mailchimp or Patreon other than to offer those services for which you signed up. If you have not already done so you may subscribe to our newsletter for free and also set up a monthly donation in support of our work starting from as little as $1.

This Privacy Policy applies only to our online activities and is valid for visitors to our website, including services related to our podcast, surveys, apps and all other allied services, with regard to the information that they shared and/or collect in Physics Capsule. This policy is not applicable to any information collected offline or via channels other than this website.
